in the manga, kyo and tohru became an item. when the cat is loved, the curse is broken. there%26#039;s this scene where kyo and tohru embraced and both are very surprised that kyo didn%26#039;t turn into a cat.

Reply:The curse broke in two ways really.


First was; when one that was unloved (the cat) was loved the curse nears its end. This doesn%26#039;t seem to be solely a romantic love as the curse began breaking around the time Kyoko befriended Kyou. Instead its better described as any kind of love and acceptance.


One thing that did show up was the fact that Kazuma%26#039;s affection for Kyou seemed to have no affect suggesting it had to come from someone outside.


Other reffs to this part of breaking the curse can be seen when Tooru decides to pluck up the courage to tell Kyou she loves him and Momiji is then freed in the next chapter and when she finally tells him she loves him Hiro is freed. This part of breaking the curse seemed to be just a kind of start off than the actual soloution.


If the second part explained below is the actual trigger then this part is the build up to the end of the curse.





The second part of breaking the curse was when Cat%26#039;s words of not wanting eternity reached Kami%26#039;s heart. When the spell was first cast as Cat was dying he said he didn%26#039;t want to be reborn and that the time that they spent together in one life was enough. Eventually Kami understood those words and the curse completely broke. When this happens all of them are freed as Kami goes around the city collecting the souls of the animals.
