Ok, so i saw the anime and read most of the manga. I find Tohru very annoying (no offense to Tohru fans!) and her personality seems so unrealistically "pure" and goody two-shoes that it sickens me T_T. I know its just a show but really I'm a fan of Fruits Basket so i got the right to judge it!
Alright, Ladies and Gentlemen your thoughts??
Question for Fruits Basket fans....?
I think the idea is that she supposed to be a walking contradiction. She's so pure and kind-hearted, thus making her the "cure" for the curse. Only a person that nice could be the one to break hundreds or even thousands years curse. Her heart is the one that could bear all the hatred and angst of all The Sohmas. Of course in real life, it's hard to find a person that nice but hey this is why anime exist. To remind people how a simple thing like beintg nice could make the world a better place. And they make us laughs too. LOL. This is just a piece of my mind.
Reply:I agree with you on the Tohru's character, she's really sweet but it would be hard to find someone that PURE but I luv the manga the anime was a little disappointing to me. The manga got a lot deeper. Either way it's still a great story n__n
Reply:Well just think about it. Tohru is an orphan. Her Grandpa kicked her out-sorta. Her blood-relatives thinks of her as scum. She obviously doesn't like to express her feelings to her friends; She hides her true feelings. She puts other people ahead of herself, that's why she masks her feelings; so they won't be burdened with worrying about her. But, to be able to put others ahead of yourself like she does just proves what a great person she is. A pure person who can always see good in people is exactly what the Sohma's (and most people) need. She was perfect for this anime.
Reply:Yeah, Tohru is a bit too optimistic for my taste, but if you've noticed anime heroines have mainly the same types of personalities. First, there is the pure hearted, yet clumsy girl. Then there is the eats-a-whole-lot-and-never-puts-on-weigh... girl. Third there is the rebel-who-hates-the-world-but-must-save-... Of course Tohru falls under the first category, and because her intentions are so pure and straight-forward, she is the "cure" for the Sohma curse.
Reply:XD, yeah, Tohru DOES seem unrealistically pure... I don't hate her, don't LOVE her.... she "eh" to me. Fruits Basket's like, one of my favorite mangas. I like most everyone else :3. GAH, Momiji's cute, but he annoys me sometimes @_@.
I love this manga to DEATH X3.
Reply:Yea, I totally agree!!! Tohru is a little annoying. Its like she is never ever down! --; Nobody is ever that happy. Bleh :P You know?? It is unrealistic, but then we do have to keep in mind its an anime where people turn into the zodiac by hugging people of the opposite sex ^^;;
Reply:Gosh. I really don't like Tohru, she's like always "Oh I'm so sorry" it gets really annoying. And how does everyone just "like" her
Reply:Tohru is a bit optimistic, and not most people are like that. But what do you think the story would be like if she wallowed in every little bad thing that ever happened to her? Having a good out-look is what makes Tohru....well, Tohru. I think it kind of teaches you something. Like, you'll never get anywhere if you're always dwelling on the past, so look towards the future! Yes, she is kind of overly good, and happy and way too optimistic, but seriously everyone is different. I know alot of people like her actually, once you get to know them, they're a little easier to understand.
