Do you have to read Fruits Basket in order?

I am going to the library today for my first time reading manga. I think I am getting Fruits Basket. The first volume isnt available. Do you have to read Fruits Basket in order?

It is one long extended story so yes, I'd recommend it. You'd really want to follow the relationships between the characters as they build from the start.
Reply:You definitely have to read it in order. I did not get a SINGLE thing at first when i started at the 3rd book. And if you cant find the volumes.. you can always just download it from stoptazmo.com. :D Its still being continued... so yea... there are over 18 books now.... O.O

Reply:You can get all ones available and watch the rest as anime. The anime isn't that different from the manga. Just go to http://www.youtube.com/ and you will find it by searching for "Fruits Basket episode(type in episode #)"
Reply:I would really reccomend reading -any- continuious story line in order. If you don't, it gets confusing (sometimes, as a first time reader, it gets confusing, trying to keep it all straight!). I'd say just wait until it does become available until reading the series --or try something else that is. There are a lot of good Mangas out there!
Reply:i read the first one then i read the rest not in order. i also got it from the library. it's a lot more fun if it's in order. If you skip a volume...you wonder why this is happening or what happened to this? i think you should read it in order.
Reply:well you should read the first volume to even understand it because it's all where everything starts. so i suggest you do that. if the library doesn't have it read it in a book shop it's fast to read
Reply:U should, but you wont be that confused if you dont, but the first book is a must to read first, Furuba (the shortened name) is a great manga and anime, although the anime cuts off somewhere in 1/3 of the manga. The manga is a kyoru couple, while the anime is more of a Yukiru, you will know these after reading it. You can go to

You should also read W Juliet, its great its so good and it comes out fast.


Also read Hanakimi, this is also a really good manga, it has a bit less crossdressing than W Juliet.


Also read From Far Away, its really good if you like a bit of action thrown in to a romance type of manga.
